The active ingredient in Dovonex is Calcipotriol, a derivative of Vitamin D, and belongs to a class of drugs called anti-psoriatics. Calcipotriol works to reduce the speed of the reproduction of the skin cells (a primary cause of plaque psoriasis). This rapidly smooths out scaly skin, reduces redness, and soothes irritated skin.
Common side effects include: skin irritation, worsening of your psoriasis, dermatitis, redness, flaking skin, burning or stinging feeling, itchy rash and skin inflammation in the area where the medicine is used. Side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before using or any other medication.
