Fostair contains two active ingredients; beclometasone and fumarate. Beclomethasone is a corticosteroid that can help to control inflammatory responses. When beclomethasone is inhaled it is absorbed by cells in the airways and lungs, preventing the release of chemicals that cause allergic and immune responses that result in inflammation. Working in this way, beclomethasone can reduce the inflammation that causes the narrowing of the airways, making breathing difficult.
Formoterol, the other active ingredient in Fostair inhaler, is a long-acting beta 2 agonist which works by relaxing the airways’ smooth muscles, making breathing easier. This relaxation of the muscle bands in the airways – also known as bronchodilation – can prevent asthma and COPD symptoms like breathlessness and wheezing.
