Clenil Inhaler(s) contains the active ingredient beclometasone dipropionate belonging to a group of drugs called “Corticosteroids” or “Steroids” for short. Inhaled corticosteroids, like Clenil Modulite, are common medications used to help control asthma symptoms. They are often known as “preventer” medications because they do not instantly relieve symptoms of asthma. Instead, corticosteroids work by reducing inflammation in the body over a period of time. Clenil Modulite is an inhaled steroid, therefore it acts upon the small airways in the lungs, reducing swelling and irritation and easing breathing.
Since inflammation in the lungs is one of the main causes of asthma symptoms, it is very important that a patient who has been diagnosed with asthma is on the correct treatment to ensure their symptoms are kept under control. Patients who are using their reliever inhaler such as Ventolin, Salbutamol or Salamol more than twice a week, or who wake up in the night more than twice a week with symptoms should be using a preventer inhaler like Clenil Modulite. It is important to regularly use your preventer inhaler, such as Clenil, to ensure that the inflammation in your lungs is kept at a minimum. Inflammation of the lungs is the main cause of symptoms such as shortness of breath, asthma attacks and wheeze. It can also contribute to infections in the lungs. By taking your preventer inhaler regularly, it will keep the inflammation under control and help control your asthma symptoms.
Common side effects of Clenil are oral thrush and a hoarse voice or sore throat. Rinsing your mouth with water after every dose can help to prevent these side effect(s). Using a Volumatic spacer device can help prevent this too. Side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before using or any other medication.
