EllaOne contains the drug ulipristal acetate. Progesterone causes an egg to be released by the ovaries (ovulation). Ulipristal blocks the function of progesterone to stop or delay the release of the egg. This means the sperm is unable to fertilise the egg.
Common ellaOne pill side effects include feeling sick, pelvic pain, headache, stomach pain, and breast tenderness. If you vomit within 3 hours of taking it you should take another dose because it may not have worked. Side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before taking this or any other medication.
