Trimethoprim works directly on the affected area travelling to the bladder. Here trimethoprim attacks the bacteria, preventing them from multiplying. This allows the immune system to come and clear the remaining bacteria and infection.

Common side effects include: itching, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, headaches, rashes and stomach upset. Side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before taking this or any other medication.
