Salamol is another brand name of the active ingredient Salbutamol, a quick-acting drug that helps stop an asthma attack when it occurs. Salbutamol works by acting on beta-2 receptors in the lungs. When it stimulates these receptors it causes the muscles in the airways to relax, and this allows the airways to open. Thus you should start feeling your symptoms ease straight after you used the medication. It is known as a bronchodilator or a Reliever Inhaler.
For the standard aerosol inhaler the following steps should be followed to use your inhaler properly:
Open the inhaler, remove the mouthpiece cover-check there is no object in the mouthpiece.
Hold the inhaler upright with your thumb on the base and your finger on the top of the canister and shake the inhaler up and down 4 or 5 times.
Breathe out as far as is comfortable, away from the inhaler. Do not breathe out into the inhaler.
Put the mouthpiece to your lips. Seal your lips around the mouthpiece.
Start to breathe in slowly and gently. As you begin to breathe in, press the top of the canister down fully to release one dose. Continue breathing in slowly and steadily and as deeply as you can until your lungs and air passages are full.
Remove the device from your mouth and hold your breath for 5 to 10 seconds and then breathe out slowly.
Continue to breathe normally.
