Minoxodil is believed to work by increasing the supply of blood and nutrients to the hair follicle. This helps strengthen existing hair and in some cases can stimulate secondary growth. It is thought to reverse the hair loss process by increasing the diameter of the hair shaft. It is also thought to stimulate and prolong the ‘growth’ phase of hairs.
In the early stages of Regaine use it stimulates the follicle to moe into the growth phase, causing old hairs to fall out, making way for new thicker hairs – so don’t worry if hair loss increases for a very short time at first.
As with any medicine, Regaine may cause side effects for some people. The most common side effect of Regaine foam is headaches. Other common side effects include itching, slight irritation and unwanted hair growth in non-scalp areas. This may be a result of not washing your hands after applying the solution and the solution may be transferred to other parts of the body. Side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before taking this or any other medication.
